Teen Preconception Health Wheel

San Diego Teen Preconception Health Wheel

San Diego County, Health and Human Services Agency, Maternal, Child and Family Health Services Branch was awarded a 2008-2009 March of Dimes, California Chapter Community Service Grant to implement a Preconception Health Awareness Project.

The project developed this culturally and linguistically appropriate preconception wheel that contains health information and educational messages for teens. The wheel presents topics such as weight, exercise and healthy eating, stress management, healthy relationships, medical and dental check-ups, communicating with your health care provider, smoking, alcohol and drug use. Each topic is divided into two parts, one that explains the impact of health care and lifestyle choices and another that provides woman with useful tips on what she can do. The wheel also highlights national resources.

Notes:

  1. Professional printing is suggested. For printing information, please email info@everywomancalifornia.org.
  2. Detailed instructions for in-house assembly are not currently available. However, a photo is provided below to show how the front and back sides of the completely assembled wheel are supposed to appear. It also shows where the colorful pages are supposed to be cut. A brass fastener can be used in the center so that the colorful pages rotate, allowing different messages to appear.
